Room Parent Responsibilities
PTA: We encourage you to not only join the PTA, but to attend as many meetings as you can so that you are informed of upcoming events at the school. The dates and times of meetings scheduled for this year can be located on our Calendar page.
Teacher Birthdays: It is to up your discretion to decide how you want to make your teacher’s birthday special. Some suggestions include:
School Carnival: We rely on our room parents to organize a themed basket and volunteers for the festival. Each class will be turning in a themed basket for a silent auction. Your teacher will decide on a theme via the signup sheet in the Staff Lounge. You will need to send out a letter to your class asking for item donations. After you have gathered all of your items they will need to be displayed in a basket, or have some sort of bottom support, and wrapped in clear cellophane. An itemized list of the contents with a grand total value will also need to be attached to the outside. More information can be found on our "School Carnival" page
Holiday Parties: Your teacher should communicate to you what activities she/he has planned for various celebrations. This information can also be found by clicking the "Staff Birthdays & Info." link. You will coordinate with them about the flyer, party supplies and parent help.
Teacher Appreciation Week:
As a school, we will participate in a Monday through Friday “giving list”. Please add your personal touch and include specific gift ideas that your teacher might like on the flyer that is sent home with your class.
This week is extremely important, but it is not until Spring! We will provide information early next year to go over all of the details to help you with your responsibilities for the week.
Teacher Birthdays: It is to up your discretion to decide how you want to make your teacher’s birthday special. Some suggestions include:
- Secretly sending home a flyer asking for contributions to a themed class gift (e.g. you decide to put together a beach bag, and ask the class to contribute towels, sunblock, magazines, etc.). Use your teacher’s information sheet to help you in deciding on a personal gift. Be sure to note that the kids should hand the items to you directly, and not to the teacher!
- Send home a flyer reminding the kids of the upcoming birthday, and ask them to make handmade cards or bring their favorite flower.
- Delegate responsibilities for a birthday party! A couple parents bring flowers, a couple parents bring balloons, make a big card and have all the kids sign it. Or send home a flyer asking the kids to wear the teacher's favorite color.
